Finland is taking a major step in introducing digital treatments into public healthcare. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is launching a pilot phase of the Digital Therapies reimbursement trial, which will test how digital therapies that have been proven effective can be safely and equally integrated into everyday healthcare. BitHabit is a lifestyle intervention app developed in Finland.
Wellpro Impact Solutions Ltd and BitHabit have been selected as one of ten operators participating in the national digital care pilot. The selection was made from 24 applications and was based on the suitability of the solutions for treating a disease or preventing its worsening, as well as their effectiveness based on research evidence.

The aim of the trial is to establish a permanent model for digital health care
The aim of the digital care trial is to develop and test a national model that creates a common set of rules for the evaluation, procurement, distribution and use of digital care. The pilot will be implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and coordinated by DigiFinland, in cooperation with Kela, Sitra and FinCCHTA.
Sitra will contribute to the project by compiling the results of the experiment and recommendations for the development of a substitution model. Previously funded digital therapy experiments and international benchmarking will serve as a basis for the work. The project will be implemented during 2026 and the final report will be published in February 2027.
Towards reimbursable digital therapies
The pilot will build the basis for a future reimbursement system that supports the use of digital treatments and promotes innovation in the Finnish health sector.
